<p>For the last several weeks, I have been speaking with Mike McGoldrick, the General Manager for CopyScan – Fort Lauderdale’s leading <a title="litigation copying" href="http://www.copyscan.com/about-us/litigation-copying/">litigation copying</a> and scanning firm.  The topics for these discussions have up to this point been very general – giving me the opportunity to educate both my readers and myself regarding the often complicated concerns that face local law firms.   I now attempt to shift the focus of the interviews to find out more about specific issues and how the trained professionals at CopyScan combine both their expertise and the latest technology to further assist in the litigation and discovery process.</p>

</p>
<p>
<div>Q:  Good morning, Mr. McGoldrick.</div>
<div>A:  Hello.</div>
<div>Q:  I want to narrow our focus, so to speak, to specific applications and issues that are relevant to litigation copying and scanning applications.</div>
<div>A:  That would take days.</div>
<div>Q:  I know.  That’s why we’re going to discuss them one at a time.</div>
<div>A:  Where do we start?</div>
<div>Q:  How about something easy, like trial exhibits?</div>
<div>A:  Excellent topic &#8211; and one of our most popular services.</div>
<div>Q:  Let’s start with an overview.  Describe for my readers exactly what trial exhibits are and how they work.</div>
<div>A:  The purpose of trial exhibits is to allow the attorney to tell their side of the story as effectively as possible at trial and/or mediation.  Trial exhibits are highly visual, and it has been proven that juries respond much more positively to visual stimuli.</div>
<div>Q:  That’s interesting, but what are trial exhibits exactly?</div>
<div>A:  Oh, sorry.  A trial exhibit is a blown up image of a document or photograph that is produced in order to show some sort of occurrence in greater detail.</div>
<div>Q:  I see.  So they are basically reproductions or enlargements?</div>
<div>A:  Well, that depends.  Trial exhibits and trial boards can also be custom-designed with colors or special fonts.</div>
<div>Q:  What would the purpose of that be?  To give a jury the visual stimuli you referenced earlier?</div>
<div>A:  Exactly.  These custom trial boards can even add props to the documents or photographs in order to highlight a particular item of interest.  One technique I see quite often is the use of text in a balloon – similar to a comic strip.</div>
<div>Q:  And for clarification purposes, trial exhibits and trial boards are interchangeable terms, correct?</div>
<div>A:  Trial boards are trial exhibits, but there are other types of trial exhibits.</div>
<div>Q:  Ok, let’s start with the trial boards.  What are they made of and how are they constructed?</div>
<div>A:  There are many ways to make them, and construction technique varies.  But a typical CopyScan trial board is made using a high quality enlargement of the document or photo, which is mounted on a foam core.</div>
</p>
<p>
<div>I will continue to delve into the realm of trial exhibits and custom trial boards in the conclusion of this interview.   Those interested in finding out more about CopyScan’s customized trial exhibits and other litigation copying and scanning services are encouraged to call the office at (954)463-9394 or visit them online at <a href="http://www.copyscan.com/litigation_document_services/trial_exhibits/">http://www.copyscan.com/litigation_document_services/trial_exhibits/</a>.</div>
